Shorts about Singapore (history)
Singapore was once inhabited by pirates and fishermen. Later, it became part of the Sumatran Empire of Srivijaya.
In the 16th century, Europeans came to Singapore (then called Temasek). Later, Sir Stamford Raffles, soon-to-be founder of modern Singapore, came to Temasek. Singapore then came under the European powers on 1819.
On 1943, Singapore was captured by the Japanese during World War II. 1945 marked the return of the British as they came back after Japan surrendered.
August 9, 1965, Singapore became independent. A new nation was born.
