You can just call me CY for short.
My family name is Lim, and because my name is actually two words it goes behind it.
In Chinese 'Ching' is actually 'jin' 锦, which means dazzling, fresh, and splendid. Ying is also 'ying' 颖 in Chinese, and it means clever.
Because my grandparents, and my aunts and uncles are Taoist, I was supposed to be called Lim Ming ___ according to the tradition. Since my parents are Christians, they did not go according to superstition and named me Ching Ying and decided to let me choose my own Christian name.

maybe the 'ying' part. i didn't know you got to choose your own christian name, tho... that's kind of fun.

Name-choosing is not really good, cause one moment you want a certain name, next moment you want another. It's very, VERY confusing.

oh yah, ching ying, in your post you said 'your parents did not go according to superstition'- what superstition were you referring to? is it a typo error, like actually it was meant to be 'according to tradition', or is it the kind of superstition like 'when you get a chill all over it means someone has walked over your grave'?

Probably a combination of both.
Every generation in my family's history will usually have the same surname (duh!) and same word in the name. That's how we can tell who's a relative and who isn't.
